Stay Focused
We could stand for hours under the sunlight and only worry about getting tanned
or sweating due to the heat from the sun rays. This dispersed rays have no
serious effect on us. But, with the aid of a magnifying glass we can combine the
dispersed rays into one and then see the power and intensity from the rays. The
rays combined using the magnifying glass can set a piece of paper on fire. And
yes, it will also burn your skin too. This is the power of "focusing'' the rays
into one. Enough with the scientific stuff let's get serious....
In life
we can apply this principle too. So many things are not achieved as a result of
a lack of focus. So many things left half way and abandoned because we lose
interest or zeal to push further to achieve our goals. Its a lack of being
focused.
It has been my nature to observe and study people and their life
experiences and I have taken note of individuals that have benefited from
applying this universal principle and equally those that have lost out by not
applying it in their lives. I know of a certain young man that was into so many
things. Talented fellow and always keen on making cash on any possible business
venture. He was also good looking(and you know what comes with that). He was
into a lot of women and this was easy because he had the looks. Over the years
he tried many things in his search of wealth and did gain-to a certain
level-progress and money. But this never lasted for long. All his money was
spent on different women and other frivolous activities. After a brief moment of
progress, he ends up at ground zero again. It wasn't until this young man met a
pretty young lady and he fell in love. She made him realize what was important
and what needed to be discarded. At that point this young man decided it was
time to get serious and be focused. Having a relaxed mind and one woman in
his life, he could now channel all his energy and zeal towards achieving one
goal-becoming a responsible head of his family, since he had found the woman to
start a family with. By so doing, his life became meaningful and not some random
existence. He achieved and retained what he achieved. He attained successes and
progressed in it. All because he channeled all his talents and energy into one
goal. Simply put, he became a focused man. I can attest with a high degree of
certainty that a focused man is unstoppable. This brief anecdote is merely to
give an example of the positive effect of being focused. I will further give
steps on how to get and stay focused.
Getting focused.
Its simple to
understand that in order to get focused, one has to identify what is important
in their life and passionately pursue it with all diligence.
Here are few
steps to follow:
1. Identify what you want your legacy to be. View your life
from the end(how you intend your life to be) to your present status. Sort of a
rewind of the life you intend to live. By so doing you will be able to know the
various levels/goals you have to attain all the way.
2. Identify aspects of
your life that have been a hindrance to achieving your desired/ideal life. Once
identified embark on cutting them off or down.
3. Tackle goals one at a time.
A combination of many things isn't always good. Take them one at a time. A
hunter that tries to hit one bird at a time succeeds more than one that takes
many random shots.
4. Have a your mind on the big picture. Anything outside
that will be a distraction.
5. Find your drive and feed off it. No one can
do this for you. You have the latent ability to dig deep and find that unique
drive that keeps you going, that motivates you.
6. Find a way to ignite
your enthusiasm daily. Because its like fuel to drive you all the way.
7.
Always have someone to talk to (a mentor) whenever you feel you are straying. It
helps to have someone that can realign your path.
These are just a few
steps you can follow to get and remain focused. I'll leave you with these
words,"always believe in yourself and your abilities. And never lose
hope.''
